Grimard custom switchgear manufacturer was awarded a large contract by Hydro-Québec to supply the internal-arc-resistant medium-voltage switchgear required for the construction of the Romaine-3 and Romaine-4 generating stations. The contract also included supplying an arc absorber plenum (exclusive to Grimard) for protection in the event of internal failure. The switchgear was designed and fabricated by Grimard using a fixed alternator circuit breaker that was modified and installed on a cart, also designed and fabricated by Grimard, to make it detachable while maintaining all the security and automatic controls required by the client.
